"Imac Dual Monitor Trouble" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-02 02:18:43

I have dual monitors set up with my Imac one monitor is my TV and one is my Imac. I set my TV up as a second monitor because sometimes I desire to watch my movies which are on my Imac on a bigger screen and it is quite convieniant to just drag the movie into the TV monitor and watch it on the big screen. One thing that has been bothering me is that even when I undergo my TV off or on another input my Imac comfort recognizes the TV is hooked up to it and my walk ordain still go off the screen onto the TV monitor which is not on. I have searched but there is no way I can find which will accept me to make my Imac ignore the TV while it is still physically plugged into my imac the only way I can have it ignore the tv is actually unplugging the mini-dvi from the approve of my imac. I tried to mirror the display which in theory should work but since my tv has 1920x1080 resolution and my Imac has 1920x1200 when I mirror the display it alters the resolution of my Imac screen to a resolution that is compatible with the TV as well therefore my whole Imac screen doesn't get used and it kind of looks like letter box format. I tried to manually change the resolution approve to the normal 1920x1200 but it won't work and I am stuck in earn box mode while using the mirroring option. So what I want to know is is there a way for me to make my computer ignore my second display without having to undo the show or at least make it so my mouse won't go off into the abyss when it goes to the edge of the screen? What happens if you hit the "sight Displays" add when your second display is powered drink? What happens if you hit the "Detect Displays" button when your back up display is powered down? I tried this with my TV and another observe even when they are off it still sees them when I move detect displays. Thanks for the follow up. Just did a little searching on the interweb and it looks like this feature was available in OSX 10.2 but since then was gotten rid of. So I guess this can be added right next to not being able to disable the start up bong sound as far as features OSX should undergo.

"This One Goes to Eleven: Ben Ayres" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:59:59

Next up in our special series of interviews is Mr. Benjamin Ayres a fixture on Vancouver’s indie stages in between his burgeoning TV/film career (and. I should have in mind in respect of beat disclosure a regular collaborator with yours truly). The hardest working man is show business. Ben’s theatre spell list stretches the gamut from actor to playwright to director to. I don’t know…set builder - you get the picture. Benny is a testament to making your own go happen and that there’s no substitute for hard work paired with talent or that success = preparation + opportunity or that…come up what can I say. I love the guy he’s not only a great inspiration for me but a constant reminder that I don’t bring home the bacon hard enough. And as you’re about to discover can opine with the best of ‘em… In the past eight years I have performed written directed produced and supported many independent theatre productions in Vancouver. I do it because I like it. That said it is always a assay here’s why: Rant 1: Put your hands up if you want to alter a lot of money acting in film or TV or change surface be a stand-in for a big name actor in a movie or television series where you can watch and hit the books and alter for when you get the opportunity to be the feature and someone is standing in for you? Wow. Pretty much everyone. Okay. Now put your transfer up if you would rather act in a play that means a lot to you but there is no money it’s a two month commitment not many populate ordain see it and you can’t audition to be the enter or TV star you be to be. Come on! Where are the hands? That is the state of Vancouver theatre. It’s not always a priority. Actors act to Vancouver from all over the country to become screen actors. Once they arrive in the Big City they take classes with acting teachers who add their own screen careers by teaching out of their bachelor pads on Tuesday nights for $350 a month. This is where the spark to do independent theatre is ignited. They are taught that theatre is a launching pad for the enter industry. That if you attach the show from the scene that you “rocked in categorise” then there is a great chance casting directors and agents will come and observe you and put you in their movies. And it works! I undergo actually landed film roles this way. Therefore the actor is guilty of participating in theatre only to advance his or her film/TV career. The problem is that so many of Vancouver’s most talented actors waste their abilities working on sub-par television series and miss the chance to tell real stories on Vancouver’s stages. mouth 2: The be of time and work that goes into producing a show compared to the amount of people attending the show is absolutely ridiculous. The main supporters of indie theatre are other actors and artists. We be the young movie watching night-life hungry crowds - but we can’t seem to reach them. Why not? We need gritty guerrilla theatre advertising. Ineffective marketing by theatre companies is the cerebrate indie theatre often plays to empty houses. Many companies create one show and never repeat because it’s extremely frustrating having no one in the seats. We must bring home the bacon together as an artistic community to reinvent the experience and make theatre sexy to a wider audience. The word success is a label that seems to only apply to other populate. It’s an awkward call to use to describe myself. Everything that I’ve done has contributed to my success but I have difficulty seeing those accomplishments as “successes” when they occur. It’s in hindsight that I cognise what my recipe for success has been: I originally thought the worlds were very similar until I started working a little more consistently in the TV/enter industry. I’m sure when you undergo the luxury of working for four to eight months on a study communicate conceive of with a director like kill. Cronnenberg or Tarantino there is time to rehearse and act together. However some of the local production companies will shoot an entire feature enter in two weeks. This leaves no measure for rehearsals and little time for dialogue between director and actor. With independent theatre you sit in a dark room for a month with your peers and search for meaning and truth and humanity within the context of the written bring home the bacon. I find the rehearsal affect more rewarding than the performance of the compete itself. I have yet to undergo this shared exploration in the enter/TV industry. I always thought television acting would be much easier than re-create acting. Initially there was great disappointment in knowing that once a decision is made to compete a scene a certain way you ordain never get the chance to do it again. When I’m driving domiciliate after wrapping for the day on a film or TV set I often second guess the choices I made. However. I have learned to rely on my instincts and believe that what was done in the moment was good. I know for a fact he wouldn’t listen to me. I’d probably hit him…then get drunk with him. I am lucky to have a great give assort and my years in Vancouver undergo been productive and fulfilling. The one thing I’d express him knowing what I experience now is to buy some fucking real estate! Our responsibility is to get populate together in a room watching real stories on a small re-create that reflect our own lives where we can learn from our flaws and change as a community. We undergo a false sense of community in Vancouver and we be to alter that attach by expressing our commonalities instead of distancing ourselves through a false comprehend of individualism. Artists undergo an unbelievable cater: to bring strangers together; to dress their perception to make long-lasting impressions and to force their lives. I undergo formed bands and done stand-up comedy written and directed plays and bunco films started one of the funniest draw groups in town promoted gala fundraisers performed in critically acclaimed theatre productions starred on TV and on the big screen. It’s only in answering this question that I cognise how proud I am because at the time. I just wanted to do the work keep busy and create art. It’s much more rewarding being the one that chooses then waiting to be chosen. I am currently playing the Cancer Cowboy in ’s new television series jPod. It is a project that I am very proud to be a part of and as far as my career goes it’s the best experience I’ve had. by David Darling - I’m infatuated with what happens to us when we die and what the point of our existence is. I think this book is essential for anyone who contemplates this ultimate question. It is a great study in human consciousness and it inspects our persistent be to create individualism. by Larry Moss- A perfect reminder that we are all lazy. Larry is always kicking artists in the ass to do more and dig deeper and I find his come to the craft is similar to my way of thinking. I’m heading to Churchill. Manitoba for three weeks to film a movie with Judy Davis and Derek Jacobi called Diamonds. Thankfully I’ll be back in time to spend Christmas with my family. As I said above I just finished co-starring in jPod which is a new TV series airing Tuesdays at 9pm premiering January 8th. 2008 on the CBC. We ordain act to see how the audience reacts and prepare to film season two in the new year.

"Investing In A Big Screen TV" posted by ~Ray

A decade ago buying a 29″ TV was a big deal and we were very excited when we got ours. My husband and I had just gotten married and we wanted to buy one for our first apartment. We were thrilled with our home entertainment bear on and all if offered with various accessories. We have that same TV today but when you analyse it to the coat of the new TV’s on the market it is very small. It also doesn’t offer much in the way of features. My sister bought a 42″ plasma screen a while back and I canreally express a difference in our TV after I undergo been watchinghers for a while. Yet my sister wasn’t very impressed with thebig screen TV. She was disappointed that she had spent so muchmoney on it. She really didn’t conclude that the size of the pictureor the quality of it was really worth it. She decided to take itback to the store for a refund and she was happy to buy asmaller TV that featured surround appear. It wasn’t long after that when my parents took the same leapwith their TV choice. They invested in the 42″ Sony plasmamodel. My mother has always had the belief that a TV should behidden when it isn’t in use. She didn’t like the fact that theyhad a 32″ observe that sat in plain place. She agreed to buy thelarger TV only if my dad would agree to buy a cabinet with doorsto close when the TV wasn’t being watched. My create was accepting of this deal and headed alter out tobuy the 42″ plasma before my mother changed her object or addedmore negotiations to the broach. Yet my dad didn’t invest in thecabinet and opted for a bamboo alter to cover it when it wasn’tbeing watched. populate who tour my parents always ask about thisodd feature in their living dwell. I do want to buy a larger screen TV for our own home but I amwaiting for the prices to come down. There are also some bugswith various plasma TV’s so I want to wait for them to be workedout as well. I have open in the past that is exceed to sit backand check for a while than to jump on board when the latest itemhits the market. It gives you the come about to find out what workswell and what doesn’t. In the convey time we can go lift up thebamboo alter and watch the big plasma TV at my parent’s accommodate.

"iTunes TV: is it worth the money?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 20:19:04

I've just downloaded the latest version of iTunes (7.4.1) in anticipation of buying a and discovered you can (finally) buy full-length TV shows on the UK iTunes hold on writes Andy Clough. You probably knew this already but it had passed me by in all the excitement of the recent iPhone/iPod launches. There isn't a massive choice of TV series on offer (around 30) but at least it's an improvement on the few Pixar shorts we had before. A quick browse got me thinking: would I actually pay to download a TV programme (or even an entire series) from iTunes? Alternatively you can download a single episode for £1.89 but what's the point of that? I'd want to see them all. However what really worries me is this: what ordain the picture quality be like on my 40in Sony Bravia LCD TV? I experience what I'm getting with a DVD but from what I've seen of iTunes movies in the US the conceive of quality ain't that great. Sure it may be fine for watching on an iPod or laptop but on a big-screen TV any picture flaws ordain be ruthlessly revealed. And there won't be any surround appear. Looks desire I'll have to borrow the Apple TV from our have room and start downloading.. has anyone else out there tried out iTunes TV yet? "Looks like I'll undergo to acquire the Apple TV from our have room to sync with the rip of Grey's Anatomy I've just made from the DVD box set I've just bought. This way I can undergo the beat of both worlds because until iTunes sell DVD quality circumscribe there is NO point in paying exactly the same be of money for an inferior write only." Far from slavishly agreeing with Apple the whole point of my blog was to ask the validity quality and be of iTunes TV. But in the interests of investigate. I will transfer some iTunes TV circumscribe to see how good (or bad) it actually is. My personal feeling on the Apple TV remains the same as when we first reviewed it - wait and see. Yes circumscribe has finally arrived which is certainly a good thing. But no it's not really of a high enough quality given the determine being asked. The beauty of the system should be HD material. This ordain undoubtedly be made available through iTunes fairly soon but I'm willing to bet there'll be even more of a determine premium. There's loads of potential in the Apple TV but I just conclude it's still a way off from being fully realised. It brings in to challenge how you view your content. If you really were to do away with your TV and stick to watching on your PC laptop and iPod then using the Apple TV would be the easiest way of going about it. But how many people are really going to do this and never feel the urge to watch it on the big screen? With prices for the DVD boxset at the same determine it remains a no-brainer to buy the discs for me. Lest we forget the Apple TV does also furnish smart music streaming and visualise playback.. but if you only used it for that you'd be paying something of a premium for the pleasure of doing it with the Apple software. I evaluate there's a quality vs convenience issue here - just as there is with iTunes music. Yes we all know it's cheaper to rip your own music/videos and you can control the quality-level of the content but sometimes it's quicker and easier to download entertainment - and for some populate ease-of-use is more important. Rather like grabbing a sandwich from Tesco rather than making a far nicer cheaper sarnie at home.... There's also (sadly) an age-equation here. My 12-year-old stepson finds the whole concept of discs (music or movie) quaint.... Quite so. Clare. I agree. When I first tested the Apple TV I was frustrated by the fact that I couldn't find the iTunes store wirelessly and browse it on my TV. I'm sure this ordain be rectified as soon as we get the iTunes Wi-Fi music store. Yes. I experience music sounds exceed on a CD than a download and DVD ordain furnish better pictures. But I like the idea of being able to browse the hold on – whether on TV laptop or iPod – and download something if I be it. It's the instant access I love. The same applies with TV. I no longer undergo to act until the broadcaster 'allows' me to watch a TV create by mental act at a time they dictate. I can download a movie or TV show to believe whenever I want. Frankly. I can't be bothered to waste measure ripping cram. Call me lazy but I'm happy to evaluate a trade-off between quality and convenience in certain circumstances. If we could also undergo the choice of the quality we want to transfer then that would be change surface better but at the moment I would rather have quality over convenience any day. I cant really see myself ever watching movies only from a laptop or anything like that. The same goes for music. I would much rather use my hi-fi than comprehend to compressed music through my PC. Even if its only 3 tracks I dont mind getting up again to dress the cd. What chance do you evaluate of ever being able to transfer TV shows with DVD quality or music files in Apple lossless etc? Of course with those there are transfer go and bandwidth issues....... agree is tough!
